Members ROBERT L. EPSTEIN repstein@ipcounselors.comRobert L. Epstein, partner, is a graduate of Columbia Engineering (B.S.I.E.) and Brooklyn Law School. He is a registered patent attorney and is admitted to the bars of the State of New York, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York; the U.S. Court of Appeal for the Second Circuit; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Bob has been involved in the practice of intellectual property law for over thirty years. During that time, he has counseled clients in a wide variety of matters relating to patents, trademarks, copyrights and unfair competition. He has prepared and successfully prosecuted hundreds of domestic and foreign patent applications in the electrical and mechanical arts, and rendered many opinions concerning the patentability and infringement of patents, as well as the registerability and infringement of trademarks and copyrights. Bob also has extensive experience in litigation in the courts and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has handled patent, trademark and copyright infringement cases in the federal courts as well as opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board and appeals before the Board of Appeals. Some of the published decisions in cases that Bob has been involved in are: Kenner Parker Toys Inc. v. Rose Art Industries, Inc. 22 USPQ 2d 1453 (Fed. Cir 1997) relating to the trademarks PLAY-DOH and FUNDOUGH; Western Publishing Co. Inc. v. Rose Art Industries, Inc. 15 USPQ 2d 1545 (2nd Cir. 1990) relating to "Golden Book" children's books; and Waldman Publishing Corp. v. Landoll Inc. 33 USPQ 2d 1266 (2nd Cir. 1994) relating to rights in children's books adapted from classic novels. JASON DRANGEL jdrangel@ipcounselors.com Jason M. Drangel, partner, a graduate of the State University of Albany and of Fordham Law School, is admitted in New York and New Jersey. He has been involved in state & federal practice for 12 years, concentrating on instituting and effecting anti-counterfeiting programs, trademark and copyright litigation and prosecution,intellectual property and technology agreements and Internet related issues. Jason serves on the Anti-Counterfeiting & Enforcement Committee of the International Trademark Association and the Entertainment, Intellectual Property and Sports Committee of the New York County Lawyer's Association. WILLIAM C. WRIGHT wwright@ipcounselors.com William C. Wright, partner, is a graduate of the University of Maryland - holding a degree in English - and of the Hofstra University School of Law. Bill's practice focuses on trademark, trade dress, copyright, internet, and unfair competition law. He advises multi-national corporations on the procurement and enforcement of intellectual property rights, including trademark adoption, registration and protection. Bill represents clients in the chemical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, dietary, food and beverage, technology, textile, clothing, and entertainment fields and has overseen the trademark portfolios of some of the world's most successful and prominent corporations. He also represents numerous clients in administrative judicial actions before the United States Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Bill has lectured on registering trademarks before the New York County Lawyers' Association, authored articles for the eWorldBusiness Law Report and the ITMA Review, and is a contributing writer for the VIP Newsletter. He is an active member of The Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group (PTMG) and the International Trademark Association (INTA). Harold a registered patent attorney, has been involved in the practice of intellectual property for nearly 50 years. He is admitted to practice in New York and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office; U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit; U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit; U.S. Supreme Court; U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit; and U.S. Claims Court. Aronoff, of counsel, is a registered patent agent highly experienced in drafting patent applications and prosecuting them both in the US and internationally. He was admitted to the US Patent Bar in 1991. He holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Florida State University and is a former technical consultant, hands on researcher and product developer for major pharmaceutical, health care and chemical companies. His areas include chemical and medical arts: pharmaceuticals, polymers, biomaterials, medical devices, food products and cosmetics. BEVERLEY ANDREE-BAZERMAN bandree@ipcounselors.com Beverley Andree-Bazerman holds an honors degree in law from the University of London, England, and a masters degree in European Law from the University of Leicester, Faculty of International Law. Her thesis was entitled The Dichotomy of EC Competition Law and Intellectual Property Rights: Striking the Balance. She is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. Beverley was a sub-editor of Database Law, a leading UK publication on the EU Database Directive and has contributed to several published articles. Beverley combines commercial and legal experience from many years' experience in both in the private sector and with law firms in the UK, Germany, EU and New York. DERMOT SHERIDAN, Associate Trademark Attorney dsheridan@ipcounselors.com A graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, (LL.B.), Dermot is a registered Irish & European trademark attorney and is currently awaiting admission to the New York Bar having passed the NY Bar in November, 2004. Dermot has a multi-jurisdictional global background in patent and trademark prosecution, having practised with leading Irish firms prior to joining EDBJ in 2003. In the field of trademarks, Dermot has extensive experience in the prosecution of U.S., Irish, European Community (CTM), and international trademark applications (Madrid Protocol) on behalf of U.S., Irish and international clients as well as trademark & brand clearance searches; monitoring & assisting clients' global intellectual property portfolios. STEVEN BAZERMAN (1940-2003) Steven Bazerman, a registered patent attorney, was involved in the practice of intellectual property for over 25 years. He graduated from the University of Michigan, School of Engineering, holding degrees in electrical engineering and engineering mathematics (computers), and of Georgetown Law School. He was a member of the bars of New York and Washington D.C. and admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A specialist in the field of patents, trademarks and copyright, he has successfully litigated a number of important cases in various aspects of intellectual property including LeSportsac, Inc. v. K Mart Corp., 745 F.2d 71, 78 A.L.R.Fed. 695, 225 USPQ 654 (2nd Cir. 1985); LeSportsac, Inc. v. K Mart Corp., 601 F.Supp. 183, 224 USPQ 776, 225 USPQ 580 (SDNY 1984); Pepe (U.K.) Ltd. v. Ocean View Factory Outlet Corp., 21 USPQ2d 1509 (DPR 1991); Source Perrier SA v. Water of Saratoga Springs, 217 USPQ 617 (SDNY 1982); and Banff, Ltd. v. Federated Dept. Stores, Inc., 638 F.Supp. 652 (SDNY 1986). In fact, LeSportsac v. K Mart has been considered the primary case in the development of trade dress protection under the Lanham Act. Most recently he obtained one of the first rulings on in rem jurisdiction under, and the constitutionality of, the Anti Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, Heathmount A.E. Corporation v. Technodome.com et al, ___ F. Supp. ____ (EDVa 2000). Steven served on the INTA Editorial Board. He is co-author of A Guide to Registering Trademarks and the VIP Newsletter. In addition, he is the co-inventor of several patents and patent applications in the field of computer technology. |
